If Corona virus / covid 19 is affecting your mental health then hypnotherapy may be able to help.
Corona virus is difficult for us all
These times are difficult for everybody right now. People distance themselves from one another, even from friends and family. Whole swathes of the economy are shut down as the government acts to restrain the virus’ spread. Nobody knows how long this will last and fewer and fewer people believe the government’s ‘roadmap to freedom’. Already the promise of a great Spring has been pushed back to the Summer and the prospect of foreign holidays recedes further and further into the distance.
The early enthusiasm for working from home has turned into crushing boredom for a great many people. People who WFH and students stuck in bedrooms are experiencing a huge weight of loneliness. Furloughed people now wonder if they have any jobs to go back to or whether their employer will collapse into bankruptcy.
I have had clients on the verge of suicide and am, frankly, surprised that nobody has gone through with it. I have had clients whose friends or flatmates have, in actual fact, killed themselves are who are then left with the pain, guilt and fear that others will follow suit. It’s horrendous and I have never been busier with a caseload of clients so mired in despair.
It’s pretty much the first thing every client brings up as they enter my Reading or Oxford offices or commence a session online. Even the ones who aren’t seeing me for anxiety related issues are feeling it. Some sessions are turning into hypnotherapy for corona virus anxiety sessions.
How much worse a problem is it for those who were fearful of health-related problems before the outbreak of corona virus?
It’s even worse for those people with pre-existing concerns regarding health and anxiety
People with OCD relating to germs and illness are having one hell of a time right now. People with health anxiety now have something valid upon which to fixate and worry. Emetophobes who fear illness in others will now be seizing upon every sniff and cough.
People prone to depression may feel worse as the social restrictions drag on, as financial worries build and as there is more and more time in which to ruminate and feel dreadful. Furthermore, government scientists are on record as encouraging the government to deliberately spread fear. It has certainly worked. The population of the UK has been terrorised and mental health is plummeting as a consequence.
The list goes on and on.
If current events are threatening to tip you into depression then finding better ways of dealing with your feelings might be a useful way of staying as mentally healthy as possible.
The really good news is that getting help doesn’t necessarily entail leaving home. I am still seeing clients face to face, offering hypnotherapy and psychotherapy in both Reading and Oxford. However, if that feels impossible then I have long-since worked with clients from across the globe using televisual applications such as zoom and vsee.
The results when using these applications are no different to those experienced when working face to face and increasing numbers of people opt to work with me in this way. Perhaps you’re ready to join them.
These are difficult times and yet there is help available. I have a long history of using hypnotherapy to work with health anxiety, emetophobia, generalised anxiety, OCD and a whole lot more besides. If you would like to discuss how hypnotherapy could help you to let go of fear then please do consider giving me a call.
