Hypnotherapy for thumb sucking is effective, fast and saves you a fortune in dentistry
Until hypnotherapy stopped them sucking their thumb

Why bother to stop? Why not just let thumb-sucking run its course?
Thumb sucking is cute when it begins. You may have seen it on the scans you had at 20 weeks. It begins in-utero and so is incredibly deeply ingrained even before your child is born. The use of dummies/pacifiers only serves to increase the connection between comfort and sucking. Few people mind. A toddler sucking on a thumb is natural, normal, charming.
If your child is now considerably older, however, the sucking of a thumb has probably become less endearing. Dentists and relatives will soon begin to warn you about the dangers posed to teeth.
What once seemed natural and harmless in a three year old is less so when the child’s age nears double digits. There comes a time when the need to stop becomes urgent.
Why wait for that to happen? If your child is still sucking their thumb when everybody else appears to have stopped then it could be a sign that their stress levels are excessively high.
I could teach your child to use other methods of managing their emotions. I could help them to let go of whatever it is which bothers them.
I could hep them to let go of a habit which only threatens to infantilise them in the eyes of their peers. Being laughed at by others at school is one of the most common reasons why children finally become determined to stop the habit. More importantly, however, I could help them to stop damaging their teeth and even their jawline. Perhaps you’ve already seen some of the pictures which show disfigured teeth and jaw-bones. Surgery can be the only way to help some people in the end.
Give me a call if you’d like to learn more of how hypnotherapy could help your daughter to stop sucking their thumb soon enough to avoid such a fate. I’ll be glad to talk with you.
The dangers are real
The pressure of a sucked thumb slowly forces teeth out of line. Overbites or underbites develop. Smiles become warped and distorted. Gums and even facial structure are damaged. It’s really quite severe.
A child’s development, looks and self esteem are under threat and your wallet will suffer too, as the costs of orthodontics and even surgery begin to mount and loom. Why can’t your child just stop?
Thumb-sucking often becomes the focus of disputes and bad feeling. After all, it’s such an incredibly deep-seated habit that your child can’t really help it. Nonetheless, you remind them, cajole them, offer rewards and try every means of persuading them to stop.
And nothing seems to work.
Perhaps you’ll even find them sucking their thumb in their sleep! It’s now a completely unconscious habit and arguments on this topic merely stress your child, causing him or her to need the comfort of a sucked thumb more keenly!
I am trained to not only help your child to let go of a habit but also to help parents to respond differently to this habit. If your child’s habit is causing you problems then you can learn to respond differently, so as to better be able to assist your child in letting go of the habit.
Hypnotherapy could provide the answer you’ve been looking for
Hypnotherapy is great at helping children and teenagers to turn away from unconscious habits.
I’ve used hypnotherapy in London and Reading to help children stop grinding their teeth at night.
I’ve used hypnotherapy in Oxford, Thame and Wallingford to help children stop wetting the bed at night.
Hypnotherapy targets that unconscious part of the brain which is responsible for these habits. Hypnotherapy also helps children to replace the comfort of thumb-sucking with something more sustainable.
There are also ways and means of helping children to render unconscious behaviours conscious, so that they acquire a stronger and deeper level of control over their habits.
When the underlying anxieties are resolved, where they exist, the habit itself becomes redundant and is so much more easily removed.
I know that hypnotherapy is an effective treatment for thumb-sucking in young people. My clients and their parents know it too. Perhaps it’s time to consider using it to help your child as well.
