Hypnotherapy could help you to stop biting your nails for good!
Nail biting has markedly increased as a habit during and since the times of covid 19 related lockdowns. I have had so many enquiries regarding the habit that I realised that I didn’t have a page for the problem. So, here it is. I hope that you find it useful.
Many people bite their nails as children. Most of them soon grow out of it. If you’re here, reading this page, because you have tried and have failed to stop, then perhaps there is good reason to be contacting me. People who can’t stop a habit such as nail-biting are usually using nail biting to alleviate deeper problems with stress and anxiety.
Every week, at the moment, I see clients from Oxford, Reading, Thame and Wallingford who wish to use hypnotherapy for nail-biting. I have found that hypnotherapy is effective at helping people to stop biting their nails and look forward to helping you. If you wish to stop nail-biting then hypnotherapy could help you too.
Nail-biting is a part of the BFRB group of behaviours
BFRBs are ‘bodily-focused repetetive behaviours’ and include conditions such as trichotillomania, dermatillomania and nail-biting. I have worked with all of these conditions a great many times and have found hypnotherapy to be an appropriate therapy with all of them.
It’s important, however, to recognise that nail-biting, in common with other BFRBs, can have complex origins. They are invariably a means of dealing with stress, anxiety and – frequently – depression. This means that you will need the help of an experienced and well-trained therapist if you are to be able to identify and work upon symptom and cause at the same time. It’s not always, or often, a simple case of my giving you some magic words which can simply cause the habit to disappear. I’d advise you to be suspicious of other therapists who claim that it can be dealt with in a single session or two.
I have been trained by a UKCP accredited organisation. As well as being a hypnotherapist I am also a fully qualified psychotherapist. My training took four years to complete and this means that I am one of the most highly qualified people using hypnotherapy in Oxford, Reading, Wallingford and Thame.
I can help you to identify the causes of the habit and I could help you to end it, once and for all.
If you’d like to put an end to your habit of biting your nails then give me a call on 07786123736/01183280284/01865600970 or email me at paul@resolvedhypnotherapy.co.uk. I’ll be glad to speak with you and to help you to put an end to nail biting, once and for all.
We’ll work on symptom and cause at the same time
It’s important to realise that biting your nails is just a symptom. Stress and anxiety are usually at the root of habits such as nail biting when people can’t stop it by themselves. I don;t know what caused such stress and anxiety to exist. Together we’ll find out and put it to rest.
Nail-biting is a way of dealing with strong emotions when no other way is known. I could help you to learn other ways of dealing with emotions so that nail-biting just becomes a redundant habit. It will simply end when the need for it is resolved.
I could help you to deal with whatever it is which has caused you to adopt mail-biting as a coping mechanism. I could help you to end anxiety, to adopt healthier approaches to stress and – where necessary – to repair your self-esteem.
The danger is that if we were to simply focus on the symptom – nail-biting – then it will either come back or change to something else. Let’s deal with both symptom and cause at the same time, so that you can bin the habit of nail-biting once and for all.
When you’re ready to get in touch you can call me on 07786123736/01183280284/01865600970 or email me at paul@resolvedhypnotherapy.co.uk. I look forward to hearing from you and to helping you to develop a habit of having beautiful, healthy and happy fingernails.
